Signs You may Have A Scorpion Problem In Your Home
Scorpions are a common sight in Arizona, but that doesn’t mean you want an invasion of them in your home. Scorpion venomous sting can be painful, and the Arizona Bark Scorpion can even be lethal. Check out these five signs of a scorpion infestation.
1. You Spot Lots of Smaller Bugs
Scorpions are attracted to wherever they can find food. Their primary food source includes small bugs like ants, cockroaches, beetles and flies. Once they’ve followed the scent of their food and made their way inside your home, they’re hard to evict. It’ best to avoid an scorpion infestation in the first place by being mindful of multiple minor bugs in your home. Keep insects away, and you will keep the scorpions away.
2. You Have Citrus Plants or Trees
The Arizona bark scorpion is often attracted to citrus plants because they love dark, moist environments. Citrus trees give them the shade they crave to set up shop. If your backyard has citrus trees, you could be playing host to a scorpion infestation.
3. You Live in a Recently-Built Development
With more and more developments being built in desert areas, the scorpion population is being disrupted and displaced. They don’t usually relocate when disturbed; they tend to stay put. So, if you just moved into a new house, you may be more susceptible to seeing scorpions living amongst you.
4. You Offer Lots of Shade
The large shady trees in your yard may look beautiful but they may be harboring scorpions and other dangerous bugs. Scorpions seek shade to get away from the harsh Mesa AZ sun. Wherever you see a lot of shade, chances are good that scorpions are there. Be sure to trim back trees and keep your landscaping neat. Your local pest control expert in Chandler, Gilbert and Phoenix area can regularly inspect foliage for signs of a scorpion infestation.
5. You’ve Seen a Scorpion on Your Property
If you spot one scorpion, chances are there are many more where that one came from. They tend to live in groups, so another one or several could be hiding nearby. While you may be able to rid your home of one scorpion, it’s a whole other thing entirely to get rid of a bunch!
